ABSTRACT
Conflict resolution in any business organization is an important aspect in the running of any organization: Various techniques exist for the effective resolution of minor and major conflict in an organization. The importance of a proper understanding of conflict resolution techniques steems from inherent and inevitable nature of conflict. Thus, this research focused on the organization, nature and pattern of conflict, its sources, effects on organization and suggested solutions with emphasis on Auchi polytechnic Auchi as a case study. Attempts were made in this research to look at the effective conflict resolution in business organization previous literature relating to the subject matter. Primary and secondary methods were used to collect data. Include the questionnaire and interview. The stratified sampling was used to select the sample while the chi-square statistical method was used to test the hypothesis. At the end, it was discovered, among others that a positive correlation exists between confrontation and consensus techniques and effective conflict management in the organization. It is therefore concluded that conflict is an inherent and inevitable phenomena in any organization and also a major determinants of an organizational growth and survival.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
The world is dynamic; as changes have become daily Occurrence. The business environment is not left out of these changes. The century has witnessed tremendous growth in the business sector (both in private and public) and the growth can be attributed to Technological and Social advancement.
One of the most important facts in the development and expansion of business is the human factor. The work force in any organization is made up of human being, which in turn coordinates other resources towards the achievement of organizational goal and objectives.
Human being have needs which when provided motivates them according to Maslow theory such as physiological, social need etc.
Organizational interaction could take the form of vertical and horizontal interaction. The former cuts across management workers, leaders, subordinate while another cuts across colloquies of the same status.
It is in this organizational interaction that conflict occurs.
According to Imafidon 2005. conflicts in an organization range from minor disagreement between workers themselves, subordinate and their bosses, between the entire workers and the management signs of organizational convex are queries (verbal or written) absenteeism, dismissal, strike and lockout.
The existence of some of all these in an organization is an indication of the existence of conflict in the organization.
Conclusively, it is obvious that conflict forms an integral and inherent part of any organization. It is in view of these that this research work will attempt to examine the measures that could be used to tackle industrial conflict in an organization using as a case study Auchi Polytechnic Auchi Edo State.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Business organization exists in the society in response to certain areas of need. Efficient human resources utilization forms the bedrock of any organization, that work in the organization have interplay with the relevant authorities. Workers have different needs and interests which if not properly managed could lead to conflict.
this study attempt to look at the following problems.
- Meaning, causes and effects of conflict.
- Knowing the techniques that arc available for management of conflict.
- Finding out the relationship if any between effective conflict management and organizational survival and growth.
1.3 Research Question
The following research questions are raised for the study
- What are the problems of conflict in the organization?
- What are the causes of organizational conflicts and identify strategies for managing it?
- What are the benefits of the various method of managing conflict in an organization?
- What is the relationship between effective conflict management and survival and growth in any organization?
1.4 Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to critically examine the measures adopted in tackling industrial conflict in organization specifically; the study will focus in the following.
- To examine the problems of conflict in the organization
- To find out the causes of organizational conflicts with a view to also identify strategies for managing it.
- To take a critical look at the benefit of the various method of man aging conflict in an organization.
- To marrow the relationship between effective conflict management and survival and growth in any organization.
Finally, to enhance people knowledge in the area of organizational behaviors and management of human resource in an organization.
1.4 Scope of the Study
This study will be limited to Auchi Polytechnic Auchi Edo State. Appraisal of measures that could be used to tackle industrial conflict in an organization and their effectiveness in ensuring people knowledge in the management of human resources and the attainment of industrial harmony in the organization shall be examined.
1.5 Significance of the Study
Practically, this study will be useful to the organization under study, in that its findings and recommendations will be of help to the management in dealing and coping with conflict as an inevitable phenomenon in the organization. Also its usefulness extends to practicing managers and other people interested in the area of organizational behavior.
1.6 Limitations
A research work of this nature can never be completed without setbacks. The researcher encountered numerous challenges, which affected the conduct of the research work.
Among these were limited financial resources of the researcher. The high cost of transportation. Others include:
- Respondents attitudes and wrong notion of respondents
- Delay cause by respondents in returning the questionnaires
- Language barriers
- Educational level of the respondents
- Secretary of the organization among others.
1.8 Operational Definition of terms
- Conflict: This can defined as the disagreement between individual, groups or co-workers which are rarely resolved easily.
- Organizational conflict: This is a type of conflict that deals with the internal and external aspect of conflict in an organization.
