CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
To compete with the international e-marketplace, a great deal of attention should pay towards the optimization of user requirements to generate recommended hotel alternatives, Kim, (2015) In general sense, hotel management hotel guest reservation system with E.payment is the way of maintaining different activities of a hotel where a number of staffs are engaged to perform a number of these activities. At first let us take a glance to an ordinary hotel. For hiring a room in this type of hotel, the client needs to meet with the receptionist to collect the information of hotel facilities. After that he is to fill up the pro forma provided by the hotel authority, then he has to pay the defined amount of money and is offered room key for his/her rented room. He/she is then finishes the formalities a reception zone through these undergoing customs. But client always wants greater privacy and reliable security.
The Hotel Industry like any other business opens up socio-economic opportunities for both owner and customer. It has the function of providing hospitality services to customers. These customers can be travelers, foreigners, businessmen, tourists, visitors, etc. Customers are mostly constrained in trying to get a room to pass the night, as the usual practice is to look for a hotel when you have arrived in the particular location, walk in and find out whether there is a vacant room. In the case that there is no vacant room, you have to move to next closest hotel to enquire once more. So what happens if you move around sometimes very late in the night in search of a room and all close by hotels are fully booked, other times you may be lucky to have the contact number of the hotel to reach them to book for a room, But do the hotel attendants really ensure to keep a room for you, You would be lucky to go and get a room booked for you. They are quick to serve those who walk in rather than those who may get access to them on phone to book a room. On other times too, if you have friends or family members in the area you want a room booked, they have to go and do the checking for you. There is no system in place that bonds the hotel and the customer that the customer has actually booked a room and for that matter he is guaranteed a room. This can make customers really stranded especially if it is getting late in the night. The study therefore aimed at developing an online hotel guest information system to enable customers’ book for whatever they need from wherever location they are before lodging into the hotel. The system is to allow for easy access and retrieval of information and reporting. With such a system in place, Cosmila Hotel Awka would be more competitive in Nigeria and across Africa. Orkin, (2018) argues that a good hotel guest information, makes a lot of meaningful progress in life. He queried, ‟what is comfort and where is comfort without a good accommodation‟. In his own views, it takes a long and rough way to have a good hotel information system but when one finally gets to it, life comes to be what nature made it to be. He made it clear and that life is associated with a good information system and that such a system is what can give full meaning of life a priceless gift of nature and shows that people who find good hotel system are enjoying while the unlucky ones cry of frustration and negative social factors that limits life. Hotel like Cosmila hotel Awka have attempted this model but because they did not make the interface user friendly the model was Fairley accepted, for herein I embark on this project research to present efficient and user friendly model, for therein I can create awareness and also provide a solution Cosmila hotel for instance, adopted a model known as hotel security management system which has helped them to an extent , this is true because its interface is not user friendly and it’s also restricted individuals in certain locations, the issue of vulnerability is poorly solved, therefore rendering the organization vulnerable to high protocols enquiry and involvement of agents, which motivate the interest to embark on this research ‘design and implementation of hotel guest reservation system with e.payment’ to create a model that would be accessible to everyone when it comes to issue of security and also a module that could solve the problem of vulnerabilities, though the proposed model does not incorporate data analysis.
1.2 Statement Of The Problems
The problems associated with the former process of hotel booking include the following:
- High cost of booking a hotel due to involvement of agents.
- Limited amount of Information concerning a hotel to be booked.
- High protocols involved in enquiry.
1.3 Aim anA Objective Of The Study
This study aims to develop an on-line hotel reservation system for the Cosmila Hotel
Management system. Specifically, this study has the following objectives:
- To design an online hotel reservation system International Hospitality Management.
- To provide features that will familiarize students with the online hotel reservation system.
- To evaluate the system and highlight the benefits the system can provide to the students and staff.
1.4 Significance Of The Study
This is very unsatisfactory to the customers to start searching the list of hotels in the city, the different amenities provided in each hotel, types of rooms available, the rate constraints, availability of desired types of rooms on desired dates, he has to approach travel agencies or guides available or by making enquiries in person or making through telephone. If the customer wants to make a choice between the hotels, he has to repeat the process for a number of hotels personally or through the middle persons which is limited. so we found the necessity of providing all the information and the facility to reserve his accommodation through the net so that maximum satisfaction is achieved by the customer. The solution we are providing to this is that we are developing a website that contains information about a hotel along with facilities, types of rooms, their rates and also an interface to reserve his accommodation so that the customer can decide the hotel of his interest. The study tends to reduce the influence and activities of middlemen from tourism business that increase the cost of reservation and prevents the customer from making desired choice.
- Scope Of The Study
The scope of the project is limited to several processes handled at Cosmila Hotel, Awka. The processes include –handling of customer’s room reservations, managing room selected by customers with their durations, record rooms currently unavailable to avoid duplication. It will generate the reports such as the recent records of the hotels activities. The Online Hotel Reservation System is designed in such a way that makes it possible to access through the internet platform.
1.6 Limitations of the Study
The following factors actually contributed to the delay and problems faced during the research and proper implementation of this project:
- Time limitation: Time is a major factor in this kind of work. I did not get enough time to do this report to conduct in depth analysis, interview and survey on the hotel. Corporate executives usually remain very busy. It is difficult to get adequate time from them.
- Confidentiality of data: They do not want to share their internal things. It’s difficult to gather primary data due to confidentiality of data.
- Resource limitation: There are not enough resources available to prepare an in-depth report on hotel guest information system.
