ABSTRACT
The study examined the perceived influence of teachers effectiveness on academic performance of business education students in NwaforOrizu college of education Anambra state. The study was anchored on the theory of Weiner propounded in 1985. A survey research design was adopted in the research and a sample size of 278 was randomly selected from the population of study. Questionnaire was the main data collection tool used in the collection of field data from the respondents. Findings indicate that business education teachers’ effectiveness has effect on students of business education such the effectiveness of business education teacher is a determinant of academic performance of business education students. The study therefore recommend that qualify teacher should always be employed to teach and inculcate knowledge into student. Those employed should be experience in the field of business education and different teaching skills should be adopted by business teachers’ in teaching business education.

INTRODUCTION
Background to the Study
Academic performance of studentsin one time or the other can be affected by the method or ways which students are being instructed by business education teachers’.Over time, the performance of business student have being observed to be declining and may be due to ineffectivenessof business teachers. Business education involves teaching students the fundamentals, theories, and processes of business. Business Education in the field of education occurs at several levels, including secondary education and higher education or university education.
Business Education, either formal or informal continues to shape the threedomains of human development; which involves cognitive, affective and thepsychomotor domains. Much then is said that formal education remains thevehicle for social-economic development and social mobilization in anysociety. Therefore, education at the basic level must be of a quality that willhelp the young ones to acquire skills, knowledge, values and attitudes thatwill enable them to contribute positively to the social, economic, politicaland moral development of the society.
The issue of poor academic performance of students in Nigeria has been ofmuch concern to all. The quality of education and performance of studentsdepends on the teacher’s effectiveness in discharging their duties. Overtime student’s academic performance in both internal and externalexaminations had been used to determine the effectiveness of teacher’sperformance (Ajao, 2001).This was buttressed by Ogunsaju (2004) who said that the academicstandard of students in all Nigerian educational institutions hasconsiderably fallen below societal expectations. Teachers have been known tohave important influence on students’ academic achievement and they alsoplay a crucial role in educational attainment because teachers areultimately responsible for translating educational policies and principlesinto actions based on practice during interaction with students (Afe, 2001).Both teaching and learning depend on teacher’s effective performance, nowonder an effective teacher has been conceptualized as one that producesdesired results in the course of his duty as a teacher (Uchefuna 2001).Considering government huge investment in public education and its outputinsociety.Therefore,Business education at the basic level must be of a quality that willhelp the young ones to acquire skills, knowledge, values and attitudes thatwill enable them to contribute positively to the social, economic, politicaland moral development of the society.The issue of poor academic performance of students in Nigeria has been of much concern to all. Consequently, upon the observing thedeterioration in the academic achievement and poor performance ofcollege student, one could wonders if the high failure rates and the failureof the students especially in examinations is not a reflection of theinstructional quality in the schools. The ineffectiveness of teachers in classroom interaction with the students could be responsible for the observed poor performance of students and the widely acclaimed fallen standard of education in Nigeria.Hence, in recognition of this fact the federal government of Nigeria in 2004 introduced a new system of education with the aim of helping students acquire and develops the skill, increase business knowledge, self-employed and at the same time help in contribute to the economy of Nigeria.
Statement of the Problem
Academic performance of students in Business Education has receivedmuch attention in educational system. At the beginning of every academicyear academic results are released and business educational stakeholdersraise a lot of concerns about the poor performance of students. Oftentime, academic results showspoor mastery of numeracy and literacy ofstudents, especially in colleges of education. Hence, internal and external schoolrelated factors that have contributed to this state of affairs, the role playedby teachers in dispensing their duties as effective teacher do help incushioning the effect of poor academic students’ performance. However, how effective business effect is on academic performance of their students or business education study is necessary.Therefore,this study will conduct an inquiry into the perceived influence of teachers effectiveness on performance of business education students in NwaforOrizu college of education Anambra state
Purpose of the Study
The major purpose of this study is to determine the effect of businesseducation teacher’s effectiveness on businesseducation students’ academic performance incolleges of education. Specifically, the study sought to:
1.To determine the extent to which the effectiveness of business education teacherscan influence the academic performance of college of educationstudent.
- To determine possible factors that can affect academic performance of business education student
3.To determine thesignificant relationship between teacherseffectiveness in teaching business Education and the level of students’academic performance.
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it seeks to provide basic information on the roleeffective teaching skills of a business education teachers could play in theacademic performance of business education students. The study will alsoprovide various reasons why academic performance of business educationstudent can be affected and at the same time highlight the variousrelationship which exist between effective teaching skills of businesseducation teacher in college of education and the performance of theirstudent on business education. In the light of this study, the extent of theimpact the effectiveness in teaching skills of businesses education teacherhas on the business education student. It will also give outline reasons whybusiness education student need to improve in their academic performancein business education. The findings of this result will also enable teachersand lecturers alike to know why there is a need for them to be effective indispensing their duties as teachers. Furthermore, it will serve a source ofreference for other researchers who want to embark on related research.
Scope of the Study
The content of the study was delimited to determine influence of business education teachers’ effectiveness on business education students academic performance in colleges of education in Anambra state.

The following research questions will guide the study.
1. What level of influence does effective business education teachers’ have on academic performance of college of education?
- What are possible factors that can affect academic performance of business education student?
- What are the significant relationship between teachers’ effectiveness in teaching businesseducationand the level of students’ performance?
